Permit Renewal Qualification
Course of fire shot under the supervision of an NRA Certified Instructor to meet the requirements of IA code 724.11.
The live fire qualification course for permit renewal consists of firing 30 shots total from distances (10 shots from each distance) of five, seven, and ten yards. Twenty-four of the 30 shots must be inside of an 8” circle. Persons participating in a permit qualification shoot should bring 100 rounds of ammunition regardless of it “only being 30 rounds”.
There will be a one-minute time limit for each string of fire. In the even a firearm can not hold 10 shots, 5 shot strings with a 30 second time limit will be used.
For the live-fire qualification we prefer center-fire handguns, unless due to physical conditions one can only handle a rim-fire, in which case a non-target rim-fire pistol is permitted. If your handgun is equipped with a Lasermax, Crimson Trace unit, or other such device it may be used. We strongly recommend using the firearm you use as your primary carry gun.
If more than one hour is needed to pass the course, students have the option of returning another day at full fee, or paying an extra $10 for every additional half hour. We have not yet had a student fail this course of fire.
